Belém Tower and Monument of the Discoveries

Belém district is filled with some iconic landmarks and many architectural and historical sights, including Belém Tower and Monument of the Discoveries, that are really close to each other. Belém Tower is one of the most iconic symbols and one of the most popular tourist attractions of Lisbon, that is also on Lists of World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Monument of Discoveries is a  52 metres tall monument celebrating the Portuguese Age of Discovery.  On each side of this monument, there are 33 heroes of the Portuguese Discoveries with Henry the Navigator leading the ship. Jeronimos Monastery

Another one landmark, that represents Age of Discovery, an important era of Portugal history.  Jeronimos Monastery, also located in Belém district, is a great example of Manueline architecture - a fluid and decorative style of stonework that incorporates maritime motifs, which is one of the reasons why it is on list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO.
