Cristo Rei is another one of Lisbon’s most iconic monuments. The 110 metre tall Sanctuary of Christ the King is a Catholic monument and shrine overlooking the city of Lisbon, located on the opposite bank of the Tejo and inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. The statue was created in 1959 to express gratitude because the Portuguese were spared the effects of World War II. So check out our Christ monument tours, learn more about the statue and enjoy those stunning views. A great way to admire Lisbon's setting and skyline.
